Texas Tech Football

Texas Tech Football is a college football team that represents Texas Tech University in the Big 12 Conference. The team is currently coached by Matt Wells and play their home games at Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock, Texas. The Red Raiders football team has had many successful seasons in recent years and are looking to continue their success in the upcoming season.

Texas Tech Football began in 1925 with the inaugural season being played against West Texas Military Institute. The concern back then was having enough players to field a competitive team. In order to have enough bodies to put on the field, players that had been expelled from school for bad grades were welcomed back if they agreed to play football. The first head coach was Ewing Y. Freeland. ThroughFreeland’s leadership, TTU finished their inaugural season unbeaten with a record of 7-0-1.

Texas Tech has several bitter rivals, the biggest being the University of Texas Longhorns. The Longhorns and Red Raiders have been playing each other since 1928 and the series is currently tied at 61-61-5. The winner of the game gets to keep the winner’s trophy, which is a replica of a Wagon Wheel. Other rivals include the Oklahoma Sooners, Baylor Bears, and TCU Horned Frogs.
